Job Description
Interim SEND Lead Officer
3 Months +
£400 -£450 per day
We require a SEND Lead Officer for a local authority client to;
- Develop and implement a Countywide Strategy to support Children and Young People with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities
- Responsible for managing, leading and developing a service to ensure all statutory duties are met for children and young people
- Under the direction of the Head of Service, devise, lead and manage the Casework team so that key milestones are articulated, met and evaluated to develop future best practice and inform commissioning decisions.
- Develop close working relationships across the team to make sure there is an effective handover of cases, but also to ensure joint working across Health and Social Care.
- Lead, manage and ensure all casework is completed in statutory timelines for children and young people. This will include a measurable action plan with clearly defined outcomes.
- Lead and manage workstreams/working groups as required to ensure that the service continues to meet all and any changing Legislation.
- Develop strategic partnerships across a wide range of stakeholders, including
- Parent carer forum
- Young people’s groups
- Education providers including Early Year’s settings, schools, colleges and training providers
- Education practitioners including Educational Psychology and other advisory services
- Children with Disabilities and Children’s Social Care
- Health practitioners, including therapy services
- Voluntary and Community Sector
You will need to have;
- In depth and robust knowledge of legislative processed regarding children and young people with SEND, including the Children and Families Act 2014, Equalities duties, data protection (GDPR) and the SEND Code of Practice.
- Knowledge and successful track record in project or programme delivery; including experience in developing multi agency networks
- Knowledge of performance management processes to ensure that staff are able to perform operationally
- Knowledge of schools, Early years providers, Post-16 providers and local authority services that support children and young people at SEN Support level and with EHC plans as they transition through their education
- Work based knowledge and awareness, including national initiative, changes to legislation, local and national political priorities
- Good Budget Management, Staff Management. Leadership skills, Good ICT skills, report Writing and Communication Skills
